Odessos Winery started as a small family wine project, the idea for which was born during a long overseas flight, developed during several wine harvests in the Southern Hemisphere, and matured enough to be realized in the sea capital – Varna, five years later. 2020 marks the beginning of the first official winemaking campaign for the winery in Bulgaria. The winery does not own its vineyards, but the core concept is based on seeking out the best terroirs and vineyards in the northern part of the Black Sea region. In this way, the team aims to present its interpretation of the idea of regional craft wine.
The philosophy of "Odessos" is based on two fundamental principles – to produce the best wine from grape varieties that reflect the character and climatic characteristics of the Northern Black Sea coast, and to achieve balance and elegance in the wines' profile.
The North Black Sea region is strongly influenced by its proximity to the saline water basin. The climate is extremely favorable for viticulture and excellent for growing white grape varieties.
The climate of the Black Sea coast is characterized by relatively warm summers and mild winters. The average annual temperature amplitudes are significantly low, which is an excellent condition for the unhindered development of vineyards. The average annual rainfall in the region is the lowest in Bulgaria. Characteristic of the area are the sea breezes, which during the day bring cool air from the sea to the land, and at night - in the opposite direction. The soils are chernozem, calcareous, and gray forest soils.
The concept behind the labels of "Odessos" wines is called Kintsugi. The colorful and, at first glance, random elements characteristic of the label design have their own meaning. They are connected to the experiences, travels, adventures, and personalities of each team member. Arranged like a puzzle, they depict a complete story in which individual elements merge with the gold of the ultimate goal - to do what you love. Odessos Winery is a joint project of brothers Georgi and Vladislav Vankov, realized with the support of their family and friends. It is the logical continuation of their efforts to develop the local wine culture and showcase the specifics of the unique North Black Sea region.
