Syntica

Syntica

Located in the heart of a region renowned for viticulture and winemaking since the time of the Thracians, Syntica Winery is the new incarnation of the Integrated Experimental Station in Sandanski, built in the middle of the last century.

Syntica Winery is a modern complex that combines tradition and innovation in winemaking. Numerous exotic plant species such as ginkgo biloba, parnar, olive trees, cypresses, palm trees, citrus trees, persimmons, etc. are preserved on the complex's territory. The landscape has not been altered, and the new construction is harmoniously integrated into this true botanical garden. Built as a classic wine estate, it includes the production of elite wines and opportunities for wine tourism, relaxation, and business meetings. The complex is complemented by a new Spa Hotel with a relaxation area.

Syntica Winery has 325 decares of its own vineyards (175 decares of which are currently being established) of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Early Melnik Vine varieties, using elite French planting material.

2008 marks the first year of Syntica Winery's new history. Only the unique underground cellar for storing and aging wines has been preserved from the previous winery. The cellar maintains a constant natural temperature of 14º C and natural air ventilation.

Vineyards

For decades, the experimental agricultural center has developed numerous branches and variations of different crops, leaving a significant mark through the creation of unique grape varieties such as Ranna Melnishka Loza (Melnik 55), Melnishki Rubin, Sandanski Misket, and others. Inheriting these decades-long traditions in winemaking, Sintika Winery emerged on the Bulgarian wine map in 2008 as a completely new and modern winemaking complex.

Terroir

The main reason viticulture has survived for centuries in the southernmost part of the Struma River Valley is the unique terroir of this region. The region is characterized by a relatively small number of foggy days - only 5 days a year, and only during the winter months. The temperature sum during the vegetation period is 4385°C, the relative air humidity in July-August is 61%, and the average altitude of the terrain is 200 m. These favorable climatic conditions, along with the highly eroded clay-sandy soils, are conducive to growing vineyards that produce grapes with excellent characteristics

Climate

The climate is transitional Mediterranean. The average annual temperature in Sandanski is 14.1ºC, and the average relative humidity is the lowest in the country - 66%. The average number of days with rainfall exceeding 1 mm is only 69-70. The duration of sunshine in Sandanski is the longest in the country - 2506 hours. During the winter months, snow cover in the area lasts for only a few days, and winter itself is mild.

Syntika Winery has won dozens of awards from national and international exhibitions, including four Golden Riton awards at Vinaria 2010, 2011, 2014, and 2016. The winery's own vineyards are located in a very favorable region along the Struma River Valley, in close proximity to Rupite, the extinct Kozhuh volcano, and the ancient Thracian city.
